This is the season of colds, coughs, and similar illnesses from around mid-autumn until the appearance of the first spring fruits. The good news is there are excellent natural substances and herbs that are more effective than any cough syrup. Here are some:

Honey and garlic

Honey is a great cough suppressant but it is advisable to combine it with garlic for faster healing. Break a garlic clove. Leave it for 10 minutes and then stir in a tablespoon of honey. Take it one hour before going to bed. These two things will work synergistically and healing will be even faster.

Celery and honey

The celery and honey pair are effective against dry cough. Preparation: Wash 30 grams of celery and cut it into small pieces. Cook it then add honey to your taste. Take it twice a day, morning and afternoon.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus oil has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-killing) properties but is increasingly used as an anti-cough agent.
Boil 4 cups of water in a dish and add 20-30 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Breathe the steam for at least 15 minutes. It is best to cover your head with a towel over the dish so as not to let out the steam.

The most delicious: honey and coffee

According to a study, the combination of coffee and honey can be effective in treating cough.
In a study, 97 adults participated for three weeks. The first group received coffee and honey, the second group was a steroid-based drug, and the third group received a non-steroid-based cough syrup. The results showed that the group who consumed the mixture of honey and coffee was the most affected and the incidence of coughing dropped significantly.

Researchers say they spend millions of dollars each year on cough treatment but the effectiveness of cough medicines are not really reliable. Honey and coffee are natural cough suppressants, more comfortable to consume, safe, less expensive than medical drugs, and are easy to obtain. In addition, they proved to be more efficient.
